Nick Ferrelli Announces Run for Belmont County Auditor

Shadyside resident Nick Ferrelli is seeking the Belmont County auditor position. He is running on the Republican ticket in the May 5 primary election.

Nick Ferrelli, a 2015 graduate of Shadyside High School, earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in business administration from West Liberty University in 2018.

Ferrelli said he has spent his entire life working in construction. He owns Belmont Builders, a Shadyside-based company that specializes in residential remodeling, home construction and light commercial projects.

Ferrelli previously served on Shadyside Village Council for six years, from 2018 to 2023, including two years as president pro tempore from 2022 to 2023. He also ran for mayor last year.

“I always enjoyed public sector work, and working on council, I was really involved,” he said. “When I did that, it was very rewarding, very fulfilling.”

Ferrelli said he decided to run for auditor because he is dissatisfied with the current property revaluation process.

According to Ferrelli, the county contracted a Columbus-based company to conduct revaluations, resulting in significant increases in property taxes and inconsistent property values.

“Some of my properties increased by 30% or 40%, while others decreased,” he said. “Taxes are all over the place. There’s no reason to contract this work out to a company in Columbus. It should be handled at the local level.”

He added the county has the ability to better manage property tax assessments.

“My background is not necessarily in accounting,” Ferrelli said, “but I was Chair of the Finance Committee … I was involved with the day-to-day operations. I’m pretty familiar with the way it works, as far as government accounting is concerned.”

One of his primary goals, he said, is to improve stability and reduce turnover within the auditor’s office.

Ferrelli also said his experience in leadership roles would be an asset in the auditor’s office. Belmont County residents can contact Ferrelli at 740-676-7557 or via Facebook.
