BHS Hosts Student Council Exchange Day
Barnesville High School organized a Student Council Exchange Day on March 13, with 50 students from four area schools attending the event. Students from Barnesville, Union Local, Cambridge and Harrison Central shared ideas on community service, leadership development and student wellness.

After refreshments and icebreakers, Vitalant presented blood drive information, and BHS students shared the success story of the Blood Bash. This year’s Blood Bash will occur on May 8, featuring a patriotic America 250 picnic theme.
Barnesville students also shared information about their highly successful Haunted High School and their enrichment trip to Pittsburgh. During collaboration, class officers from each school compared notes on prom, homecoming, senior trips, senior picnic and fundraisers.
The students loaded buses and went to Chestnut Lanes. AJ Corder, the owner of the bowling alley, discussed the challenges and satisfaction of operating a small business. Participants enjoyed pizza and bowling before returning to their home districts.
Leading the event organization was Student Council Co-President Natalie Burkhart. Barnesville student Eddy Wade said that his favorite part of the event was “conversing with students from different schools and making new connections.” Similarly, Junior Class President Brooklyn Miller said, “I liked sharing experiences with new people and learning about what they do at their schools.” Junior Class Vice-President Aidan Caldwell reinforced that meeting new students and making friends was the best part.

Union Local and Cambridge have hosted student council exchanges in previous years. Harrison Central will most likely organize next year’s gathering. The hope is to encourage other area schools to participate.
