Meyer Announces Candidacy for Belmont County Auditor
Josh Meyer has announced his candidacy for Belmont County auditor, citing his experience in public service and a desire to improve efficiency and accountability at the office.
Meyer is a 1993 graduate of the former Ebenezer Baptist Christian School in Bethesda. After high school, he attended Ohio University Eastern for one year before earning a radiology certification from the Ohio Valley Medical Center School of Radiology.
He performed X-rays and CAT scans at East Ohio Regional Hospital for approximately 15 years and today is an employee of Erb Electric in Bridgeport.
Meyer served two terms as a Belmont County commissioner, 2017-2025. Prior to that, he was a member of Bellaire Village Council for five and a half years.
“Since a young age, I’ve wanted to get into public service,” Meyer said. “Politics has always interested me.”
Meyer said one of his primary motivations for running for county auditor is addressing the federal $500,000 lien issued against the county last summer.
“Mistakes made by the office have affected our county pretty significantly. I think we can get that cleaned up and improved if I get into office,” he said.
Meyer plans to use his experience as commissioner to improve efficiency and provide better services to county residents by restoring trust while providing efficient and consistent services and open communications.
Another priority, he said, is stabilizing staffing within the auditor’s office and reducing turnover.
Meyer also emphasized the importance of rebuilding relationships with local entities.
“I want to restore and rebuild relationship with school boards,” he said. “They’ve had issues in getting some of the things they need to operate, particularly when it comes to numbers.”
He added that he also hopes to strengthen communication with other county-related boards, including the veterans commission and the mental health and recovery board.
“I want to provide those services, get things to them in a timely fashion and work with them in a more consistent manner,” Meyer said.
Meyer said he values collaboration with elected officials at all levels, from county offices to townships and municipalities.
“Those relationships are important when it comes to providing services and interacting with those folks,” he said.
“I think my years of experience as a commissioner have prepared me well,” Meyer said. “We worked closely with elected officials across the county and handled one of the most important responsibilities, the county budget. We managed funding across departments and offices, and I believe my experience, along with my people skills, will help me do a better job in this role.”
