State Approves Leasing More Egypt Valley Acreage

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Oil & Gas Land Management Commission of the Department of Natural Resources voted on March 27 to approve opening up more land at the Egypt Valley Wildlife Area for oil and gas fracking leases.

There were four “pending nominations” up for the Board to consider for Egypt Valley totaling 8,300 acres.

The four nominations approved are: 26- DNR-001, 26-DNR-002, 26-DNR-4 and 26-DNR-5.

In addition to the Egypt Valley Leases, the Commission approved leasing another 513 acres at Salt Fork State Park (26-DNR-003), 18.71 acres in Oxford Township (26-DOT-001) and and less than an acre along SR 513 in Madison Township (26-DNR-003), all in Guernsey County.

In January, the commission approved leasing 4,400 acres of the Egypt Valley Wildlife Area along with 1,800 in the Jockey Hollow Wildlife Area in Harrison County. Read the details of that meeting in Barnesville Area News.

Thus far, the Commission has approved leasing 13,000 acres of the Egypt preserve.
