Shamrocks Retain ‘Milk Pitcher’

Barnesville claimed a close victory over their neighbors to the east, the Union Local Jets, Monday night at Memorial Park, 3-2.

The game came down to a walk off run by Parker Sobutka in the 7th inning to get the W & keep the milk pitcher.  Sobutka delivered a double, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning and the game tied at 2, that scored Blake Burkhart from first base to end the game.

The Rox received outstanding pitching performances from Bobby Thompson and Parker Sobutka. Together they only allowed three hits.

Offensively, Barnesville was led at the plate by Sobutka with two hits. Max Miller and Jaxten Swallie each contributed a hit while Blake Burkhart contributed a RBI.

The victory raises the Rox record to 1-1 on the season.

On Saturday night though it was the Jets that came out on top at Morristown with another close game.

St. Clairsville – 4

The Shamrocks seems to have a  knack for close games this season.

At St. Clairsville Tuesday night, the score was tied at 4 after five innings. In the sixth, Barnesville scored two to take the lead at 6-4, the final score.

Shamrock pitching came from Blake Burkhart, Keegan Martin, and Dylan Blon who ”scattered” 8 Red Devil hits while striking out 3 and allowing no walks.

Offensively, Barnesville collected 8 hits. They were led by Aidan Caldwell with two runs batted in and Braylon Lucas and Jack Anderson with 2 hits apiece. Brayden Watters, Blake Burkhart and Max Miller knocked in one run each.

Barnesville is 2-1 on the season. They will return to action at home Friday at home at 5 p.m. with a rematch against St. Clairsville.
