Terry Russell Smith

Terry Russell “T.S.” Smith, 73, of Bethesda, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born on October 26, 1951, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to the late Marie (Humphrey) Smith.

Terry was a 1969 graduate of Shenandoah High School and was the devoted owner of Smith Sawdust Studio in Bethesda where craftsmanship and creativity came alive under his faithful care. A hardworking soul by nature, Terry believed in the dignity of labor, embracing work with the same enthusiasm most reserve for leisure. He is a man’s man who helped others as part of his way of life, but not for notoriety. It was his grit and ethic that made him who he was. T.S. was dedicated to his walking. His best friend and walking partner, Carl Grub, walked with him daily; he walked with him to the very end.

Family was central to his world. He wore the role of “grandpa” as a badge of joy, traveling far and wide across the country just to watch his grandson Lincoln (T.S. Jr.) race. He made every race he could in love, pride, and support with, “Winner, winner, chicken dinner!” on his lips.

Terry’s legacy was one of love. Kay is the love of his life more than anything in this world. He would have laid his life down for her. He spent his last breath holding her and wouldn’t have it any other way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Jolene Brocklehurst on October 5, 2017; brother, Paul Smith; sisters, Patricia Steed and Donna Kress; and his beloved dog, Isaiah “Russell Bear”.

Terry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon “Kay” (Guiler) Smith; son, Heath Smith and Daughter in Law Amy Smith, of Belmont; grandchildren, Alex Brocklehurst, Katie Brocklehurst, and Lincoln Smith (T.S., Jr.) ; and brother, Ron (Ruth) Smith of Caldwell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 4-7pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio with visitation again on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 12pm until 1pm with Pastor Aaron Szloboda and Pastor Ed Eberhart officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Bethesda, Ohio.

The family requests no gifts and no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s name, to the Belmont County Animal Shelter, 45244 National Rd W, St Clairsville, OH 43950 or Heather (Smith) Brocklehurst Memorial Scholarship, c/o Union Local School District, 66779 Belmont Morristown Rd., Belmont, OH 43718.
