Village Hardware & Rental Opens Gun Shop

Village Hardware & Rental expanded its services this year to include a gun shop for customers.
The business obtained its Federal Firearms License last November and got to work on construction after approvals. The gun shop opened inside the store in May. It is open during normal business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday.
Village Hardware has been selling ammunition for a couple years, but owner Kelly Wells thought it was time to add firearms after customers’ requests for a gun shop. She said she felt she filled a gap in Barnesville by this expansion.
The shop is fully stocked with firearms and ammunition, with guns from brands such as Savage Guns and Ruger Firearms, as well as accepting special orders and transfers. Since opening, the shop has been placing many special orders for firearms, as customers often request specific guns the store doesn’t carry in stock.
Josh Smith is the new “very knowledgeable gun shop manager” Wells said.
The rental business, started by Rodney Wells, began in 2003 to meet culvert and pipe needs. Then, in 2012, Rodney and his wife Kelly opened a store front to provide general hardware needs, paint, Sakrete products and lumber. The shop is also a Platinum Case knife dealer. The business originally operated out of a former lumber company building behind the Convenient Food Mart but moved to 265 S Chestnut St., in an expansive warehouse and factory building about six years ago.
“It’s a natural progression around here with the hardware store, and then opening the gun section, and we have rentals,” Wells said. “It’s just all encompassing.”
