WesBanco Expands Footprint

WHEELING, W.Va., — WesBanco, Inc. and Premier Financial Corp. announced Thursday  that WesBanco’s shareholders and Premier’s shareholders have each voted overwhelmingly to adopt and approve, as applicable, all proposals relating to the previously announced merger agreement for WesBanco to acquire Premier. The votes were held at the respective special meetings of WesBanco’s shareholders and Premier’s shareholders

Premier Financial Corp., headquartered in Defiance, Ohio, is the holding company for Premier Bank. Premier Bank, headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio. It operates 73 branches and nine loan offices in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

WesBanco’s first expansion into Ohio was a vote by First National Bank of Barnesville’s shareholders to merge with the Wheeling-based firm in 1991. Two years later, in 1993, WesBanco Barnesville was formed which today is folded into the parent firm.

In 2006, the company moved from its original location at 101 E. Main Street to a new facility on the site of the former Lincoln Branch Office.
