Shirley M. (Bell) Ellis

Shirley M. Ellis, 91, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at her home. She was born on January 14, 1934, in Barnesville to the late Sherman J. and Katherine (Lucas) Bell.

Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Barnesville High School, a 1955 graduate of the Wheeling School of Nursing at North Wheeling Hospital, and took courses in Medical Coding. She worked as an Registered Nurse at Wheeling Hospital, Barnesville Hospital, Dr. Frakes in Quaker City and then Barnesville Medical Center. She was a former member of the Bethel AME Church and attended the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Emmett Bell, Bernard Curtis, and Joseph L. Bell; and special family friend, Hollis “Slim” Hayes.

Shirley is survived by her husband whom she married on September 23, 1956, Kenneth E. Ellis; children, Gina (Steve) Carvin of Barnesville, Carla (Tim) Clark of Magnolia, Deleware, and Sherman (Glenda) Ellis of Bethesda; two grandchildren, Jenna (Zachary) Whitmore and Charles E. (Jamie) Clark; three great-grandchildren, Charlie Rose Whitmore, Emmett Clark and Jenna Clark; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 11am until the time of the service 1pm with Pastor Rodney West officiating at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Southern Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
