Barnesville Claims 4th at Invitational

Barnesville Athletic Director Brad Hannahs issued “special thanks to Doan Ford, Inc. for sponsoring this weekend’s Barnesville Wrestling Tournament.”

“If you aren’t busy stop & watch some quality wrestling as this has become one of the premier tournaments in the state of Ohio,” Hannahs added.

A total of 24 high schools have sent wrestling teams to Barnesville this weekend to compete in the 55th Annual Barnesville Doan Ford Wrestling Invitational. The first invitational took place at the old high school, now elementary gym at the corner of West Main and N. Broadway in 1969.

In addition to the Shamrocks teams hail from Bishop Watterson, Claymont, Dalton, Elwood City (PA), Harrison Central, Hawken School (Gates Mills, OH), Indian Creek, Maysville, Canton McKinley, New Philadelphia, Obama Academy (PA), Shenandoah, Teas Valley, Troy Christian, Tuslaw, Union Local, University, Vinton County, Washington Courthouse, Waterford, West Union, Wheeling Park and Williamsburg.

Individual competitors include 22 state places, another 24 state qualifiers, and seven junior high state champions.

Barnesville went into Saturday’s competition in 2nd place and finished in 4th out of 24 teams at the end of the tournament.

The top five teams in order were: University (Morgantown), Teas Valley, Claymont, Barnesville and Columbus Bishop Watterson.

Champion: Ayden King, 165 lbs.

Placers:

Easton Stephen 2nd, 106 pounds

Conner Wilson 6th

Colt Carpenter 3rd

Hines Ford 5th

Austin Armstrong 6th

Ayden King Wins 150th Match

BHS Senior Ayden King scored his 150th career win at the Walsh Ironman tournament in Cuyahoga Falls this past weekend.

King went 6-2, placing 5th at 165 pounds at the Walsh Ironman tournament. King was the first Shamrock to place at the prestigious invitational tournament.  

Union Local Rick Link Invitational

Barnesville placed third at 150 points behind champion Parkersburg’s 223.0 and Steubenville’s 158.0 points at the Union Local Rick Link Invitational last weekend. A total of 24 schools competed.

Champions: Hines Ford 175lbs

Placers: Easton Stephen 5th, Conner Wilson 5th, Aydan Andrews 7th, Layden Loring 6th,   

Colt Carpenter 2nd, Brayden Trigg 5th, Eli Messenger 4th,, Austin Armstrong 7th, Christien Hanna 7th, Blake Kirk 7th
