Erected on the site of the former Bethesda Flour Mill, the Shepherd & Sons Chevrolet auto dealerships still commands a spot on South Main Street adjacent to the old B & O Railroad right-of-way.

Today, the building serves as a community room and gathering space for village residents. It sports a mural along the north side that honors the years the building served as the Chevrolet Dealership from 1919 until 1970.

An early advertisement shown in the late Pat Field’s “Remembering Bethesda” listed father and sons as H.U. Shepherd, J.N. Shepherd and D.D. Shepherd.

The ad plugged the business as sporting “Chevrolet sales and service, accessories, tire service, taxi service, repairs and storage.”

For several mid-century decades the Shepherds also owned and managed the Barnesville dealership located on N. Chestnut Street opposite First National Bank.
