Walton Retirement Home Accepting Donations for Children and Pets
The Walton Home is currently accepting donations for children and animals in need for the cold winter months.
Walton Retirement Home human resource officer Amy Keiser orchestrated “Amy’s Mittens” when she and her husband owned Annie K’s restaurant. Now that she’s at the Walton Retirement Home, she started “Walton’s Mittens” and an animal shelter collection drive this year.
Keiser has always had a soft spot for children and animals who are in need, she said, which is why she wanted to start the projects. She also wanted to involve the Walton Retirement Home in the community and give back.
Keiser said. “I thought, ‘What can I do?’ I know that times are hard for everybody… I thought, ‘Well, I’ll give back to our community … That is where my heart is this year.”
People may drop off mittens, scarves, hats and socks of all sizes for children and blankets, toys, food and cleaning supplies for animal shelters at the entry hallway at the Walton Retirement Home at 1254 East Main St.
The donations for the animal shelters will be sent to the Belmont County Animal Shelter and possibly the Guernsey County Animal Shelter.
Although a flyer posted in the community has an end date of Dec. 31, Keiser said there really is no end because children and animals always need help, especially in the winter.
Keiser’s goal is to fill two to three vans of donations to take to the local schools, churches and animal shelters. Keiser noted if someone needs help getting the items to Walton Home, she can pick up items too.
Contact Keiser at the Walton Retirement Home at 740-425-2344 for more information.
