These ladies were admiring electric refrigerator models in early 1941. These would be the last new models for American families until after the end of World War II. The writer’s grandparents, Fred and Freda Froehlich of Flatrock Road purchased a new “fridge” during the war after REA electric lines reached their farm. The unit was delivered but the family had to wait until after the war for the motor that ran the unit. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, American industries retooled for war production. New autos, and yes, refrigerator motors too, had to wait until war’s end four years later.
