A ‘Petrified’ Mystery

A local history question came in this week about the two petrified logs projecting out of a concrete base at the Albert S. George Youth Center in Barnesville’s Memorial Park.

Village administrator Roger Deal and park manager Richie Wells are mystified as to the date of the unusual outdoor sculpture.

When was it placed there? Perhaps September 1963 when the youth center was dedicated by local masonic orders?

Where did they come from? Unearthed by nearby strip mining operations?

Donated by someone? Why?

A check of Barnesville Enterprise issues around the dedication of the youth center provides no clues?
