High Winds Friday Down Power Lines, Trees
One Injury Reported
Winds that at times were recorded as high as 70 mph buffeted eastern Ohio Friday afternoon and evening resulting in widespread damage and one injury.
Power was out in some communities throughout the region including the Morristown area, while traffic came to a standstill on several local highways including SR 800 in the Malaga area and on SR 513 north and south of Quaker City.
Wind born debris resulted in a worker leg injury at a Tuckahoe Ridge well pad in Beaver Township between Batesville and Baileys Mills.
Barnesville EMS and Quaker City Fire and EMS responded to the well pad incident around 5 p.m. as first reported on the popular Facebook page, Ohio Valley Sirens and Shenanigans, that monitors fire and police radio traffic.
In Barnesville, a live power line across Main Street at Pine Line that served the vacant residence at 771 East Main halted traffic in the 5 p.m. hour. Barnesville Police, Fire & EMS and AEP responded. Most drivers opted to use Railroad Street during this time.
The Barnesville Department was toned out several more times Friday night including calls at 6:20 p.m., 6:36 p.m. and 9:26 p.m.
By a sunny early Saturday morning, winds had diminished considerably.
