Barnesville Come up Short in 5-2 Loss to Martins Ferry

The Lady Shamrocks lost their home opener Wednesday against the Purple Riders, 5-2, at Barnesville Memorial Park.   

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when a dropped strike put visitors on the board.

Shamrock pitcher Ella Betts gave up six hits and three runs in four innings, striking out six and walking three.

Maddie Lucas, Purple Rider pitcher, allowed five hits and two runs in seven innings, notching five strike outs.

Peyton Loudin and Betts collected two hits each for the Shamrocks. Loudin went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run batted in.

Gracie Lucas led Martins Ferry with two runs batted in. Giana Chirpas, Makayla Cole and Lucas each collected two hits for the visitors.

Friday’s contest with neighboring Union Local was canceled due to weather conditions. It will be rescheduled.

Today, the team travels to Morgan County where they will take on the Fort Frye Cadets.
