Partisan Candidates File

Only one candidate filed by Wednesday’s deadline for the upcoming Barnesville Village Council election in November according to Kamron Chervenak, deputy director of the Belmont County Board of Elections.  Those who file with a party affiliation must file in February while independent candidates have until May to file for the November 4th ballot.

Current council president Tony Johnson, a Republican, filed for re-election. The other three seats up for grabs include two recently vacated by Steven Hill and Brian Yarnall as well as current council member Les Tickhill.

Prior to this, however, the current four council members have until the end of this month to name and approve replacements for Hill and Yarnall whose unexpired terms run through December 31.
