Barnesville Area News Editorial Policy Statement
Since its inception, Barnesville Area News Company has taken seriously its role to factually and fairly report news in the community.
Our Board policy https://barnesvillenews.org/policies/#ethics requires multiple verified sources in order to first report on news stories, including local crimes of interest.
During a court arraignment for a crime, details of the charges related to the alleged crime are revealed by the county prosecuting attorney’s office in a public hearing. Hence, Barnesville Area News Company reports on local crimes of interest once the person is arraigned for the crime, unless official statements have been issued by law enforcement or judicial departments regarding felony criminal activity and/or public safety.
