Currently mounted on a wall at Bless Your Heart Folk Heart at 157 East Main Street is this once illuminated sign promoting the Barnesville Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Lodge No. 185 that was located next door at 155 E. Main Street.
Above I.O.O.F. are three letters FLT representing the lodge’s motto “Friendship, Love & Truth”.
The Lodge was established in Barnesville in 1851, and when the New Central Block was erected in 1886, the Odd Fellows were the owners of the eastern most section of the three interconnected business structures.
The Lodge met upstairs while renting the first floor to commercial concerns, including Bairs and Householder furniture stores in the second half of the 20th century.
With just a handful of active members remaining, the lodge surrendered its charter in 1983 and sold the building to Eugene “Doc” Householder.
