Barnesville’s America 250 Mural Production Underway
Susan Lapham, Barnesville Chamber board member, and downtown business owner, issued a challenge to chamber members at the monthly meeting on May 12 to take part in the community’s 250 America mural project.
The tile mural is part of a growing number of murals placed throughout the downtown by the village of Barnesville with a supporting grant from Belmont County Tourism and corporate support from Grenadier Energy Partners III.
A project promotional message lists the purpose of the project as “many tiles, one mural, one community, one nation”.
When completed, approximately 350 four-inch painted tile squares will be assembled into an 8’ x 8’ mural that will be placed on the sidewalk side retaining wall of the West Main Street parking lot.

Lapham shared that local Girl Scout troops are on board as are students at the Barnesville Hertitage Early Learning Center.
Other organizations and individuals are encouraged to take part by painting tiles. Each artist is free to design their own design or image. There is a deadline for production, Lapham said. “They must be completed by the end of May.”
The Mural Mosaic USA-designed image mural is titled “Barnesville America 250 History”.
At a “paint and sip” party in the Bier Garten at the Blue Moon Tavern, approximately 25 volunteers painted almost 40 tiles, or 10 percent, of the number needed to finish the mural.
