Recent Barnesville Rotary Programs

The Barnesville Rotary welcome BHS students along with Devin W. Blair, Director, and Heather Eberhart, Assistant Director, for the upcoming spring musical on February 4.

This year the Barnesville High School Theater Department will present “High School Musical.”

Students Kennedy Little, Grace Goodhart, Shelby Hagan, Alex Freshwater, Lincoln Jendrusik, & Luke Taylor entertained Rotary members with an impressive performance of music and songs accompanied by Blair on the keyboard.

“High School Musical” will be performed by Middle School and High School students who dedicate considerable time and effort for months prior to the show dates. The musical production will be presented for six performances this year on March 14th & 15th, and March 21st & 22nd at the Barnesville High School Auditorium.

The BHS Theater Dept received a generous grant from the Barnesville Area Education Foundation and the community gives support through fundraisers and advertisements in their program to help defer costs and support the arts.

January 21 – Adam Myser, former Barnesville village solicitor and member of the St. Clairsville Rotary provided the program.

In 2023, Myser was appointed by Governor Mike DeWine to fill the unexpired term of Chris Berhalter on the Belmont County Northern Division Court. He was elected to a full term in November 2024.

Myser presented an interactive PowerPoint program about the different levels and types of judicial courts, tutorial federal vs. state, criminal verse civil.

He also shared information on programs through the courts to assist the community including Amesty Day, advances in drug testing, and “mock” courts at area high schools to educate students.

January 28 – Rotary member Rich Sidwell presented a program on the various watersheds and conservancies in our area and how “Great Floods” in history have affected the conservancies and what we have learned about the normal and natural cycle of water.

Our area is in the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy and the Captina Creek watersheds.

With the drought last fall, we can no longer take water for granted and assume we have an abundant water supply, Sidwell said.

He explained how building and farming along with the loss of wetlands and deforestation affects resources and the quality of water. Learning the valuable importance of trees and natural wetlands is necessary for a healthy water cycle.

We are fortunate to have the Captina Creek which has been scored as the state’s highest quality watershed. The creek is also home to the only known breeding population of the Eastern Hellbender Salamander, an endangered species.

In addition to his Rotary connection, Sidwell is a board member of the Captina Conservancy, a member of Raven Rocks, Inc. and former Head of School Olney Friends School.
