Watt Center News

Recent archival donations to the Watt Center includes records of the Barnesville Mother’s Club, minutes, committees and attendance records covering the years 1933-1944. The book was in the personal collection of the late Agnes “Aggie” Timmons that passed down to her daughter Sue Timmons Busler.

Other donations over the past several months include a 1912 Belmont Co. map, Lists from the 1809 -1811 poll records of Warren Township, a copy of the Place Names of Belmont Co. (Emma Laughlin, 1940), a core sample from Belmont County coal mining collector Henry Niemic, and drawings and mining images, a donation from Dave Crum, former Watt employee.

In November the group printed more copies of the 1908 Barnesville Centennial book that was out of stock. It is available at several locations including the Barnesville Antique Mall.

The group is currently seeking estimates to paint windows and trim on the historic office building housing the center/museum. It has been 10 years since the exterior was painted.

At the February 12 meeting members agreed to move ahead to apply for a Belmont County Tourism GAP grant for the painting project and to discuss the matter with Barnesville Village Council.

Also discussed at this meeting was the annual Spring Art Show featuring work of students from the Barnesville Elementary School. The event normally takes place late in April or early May.
