Dale Carpenter
James Dale Carpenter “Dale” age 73 of Calais, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio. He was born on July 18, 1952 in Barnesville, Ohio a son of the late Irvin and Cledith (Leach) Carpenter of Calais, Ohio.
Dale was a 1970 graduate of Shenandoah High School, He was hard-working and a proud member of IUOE Local 18, employed as an Operation Engineer for many years at Tri-State; retiring after thirty plus years from Shelly & Sands. Following his retirements, he was a driver for the local Amish community. He enjoyed Sudoku and playing cards and was an avid sports fan. The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds were among his favorites. He enjoyed deer season, hunting with his friends and family.
Dale lived his entire 73 years on the family farm in Calais, Ohio and raised cattle on the farm for many years with his brother, Richard.
He leaves behind his wife, Deborah (Debbie) Carpenter of 36 years, daughters, Halli (Tyler) Gladys of Calais, Ohio, Amy (Randy) Tucker of Old Washington, Ohio and Kim (Greg) Forshey of Sarahsville, Ohio and one sister, Genevra Hayes of Calais, Ohio; grandchildren, Morgan (Johnathon) Raber of Freeport, Ohio, Cameron (Rachel) Forshey of Worthington, Ohio, Austin (Haley) Tucker of Quaker City, Madison Forshey of Caldwell, Ohio and Mackenzie Tucker of Columbus, Ohio and six great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Richard Dimmerling of Sarahsville, Charles “Eugene” Warrick of Barnesville, Ohio and sisters-in-law, Brenda Carpenter of Calais, Ohio, Elizabeth “Becky” (George) Saltz of Caldwell, Ohio, Sharon (Tim) Miller of Quaker City, Ohio, Dee Dee Howell of Barnesville, Ohio, and Cheryl (Jay) Forshey of Barnesville, Ohio. He also leaves behind several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a his sister, Leanna Dimmerling of Sarahsville, Ohio; a brother, Richard Carpenter of Calais, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Gervis Hays of Calais, Ohio and Jody Howell of Barnesville, Ohio; a niece and a nephew, Lori and Glen Long of Quaker City, Ohio.
Friends may be received at Watters Funeral Home, 3.7501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be observed Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Kirby Moore officiating.
Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery, Calais, Ohio.
