Portions of New SR 147 Paving will be Replaced
A section of the first layer of paving on the State Route 147 project from the center of Barnesville to Bridge Street in Belmont, will be removed and replaced.
“The contractor recently experienced two days of production in which the intermediate course asphalt did not meet required specifications. Over the past couple of weeks, they have worked to adjust the mix design, and their updated material has been meeting specifications”, said Morgan Eibel, regional public information officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, responding to an inquiry by Barnesville Area News.
“Tentatively, the contractor (Shelly and Sands) plans to remove the non‑specification material and replace it beginning Monday, July 27”.
Eibel indicates the following areas will be replaced. “There are two areas of asphalt that will be removed and replaced. One area in Barnesville is between S. Lincoln Avenue near the library and Louise Lane near the coffee shop. The other area is just outside of the Barnesville Corp limits approximately from the 6.8 -to the 8.7-mile markers on SR 147”.
“This project remains on schedule for completion by September 30, 2026. At this time, we do not anticipate the contractor exceeding that date, and therefore the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival should not be impacted,” Eibel said.
