State Grants Administrator Visits Theater
Jessica DeLong, Senior Grants Administrator for the State of Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, toured the Barnesville State Theater Wednesday morning after meeting with theater board members on the recently awarded $150,000 Ohio Capital Bill grant secured by Ohio Senator Brian Chavez.
The theater board plans to use the funding to install a modern HVAC system and, if possible, use any remaining funds for electrical work in the c.1925 historic theater.

Capital Bill grants are matching grants. Work may only get underway when the grantee (State Theater) has $150,000 in hand to match the state monies.
Donations to match the state grant are gladly accepted online or by sending a check to Barnesville State Theater, P.O. Box 255, Barnesville, OH 43713. Please address any questions to the group by email to Hello@BarnesvilleST.org
In addition to this grant, DeLong provided tips for other projects on the State Theater renovation list that would be eligible for future Capital Bill grant rounds as well as other possible public funding sources.
The next performance at the theater’s “The Sunday Stage” series will take place Sunday, August 23, with T.O.U., the duo of Rick and Lisa. Admission is $5. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the performance from 5-7 p.m. At the concert, food will be available “by donation”.
This is the second grant for Barnesville projects. In the 2024 Capital Bill, $75,000 was included for the Barnesville B & O Depot roof, the funds also secured by Chavez. That project was recently completed.
