Barnesville Seeks Grant for Park Project
During the September 8 council meeting, Mayor Jake Hershberger shared the news that the village applied for a Muskingum Watershed Conservation District ‘s Connecting Communities Grant by the September 1 grant deadline for the addition of a “jumping pillow” at the park.
The program supports capital projects that expand public access to outdoor recreation throughout the following counties served by MWCD: Ashland, Belmont, Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Knox, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Richland, Stark, Tuscarawas, Washington and Wayne.
The project, proposed for the ballfields near Rotary Lake, includes
- An outdoor jumping pillow for free, all-ages active play
- A chain-link safety fence to surround the pillow
- 100-amp underground electrical service and equipment enclosure
- Ballfield upgrades, including new perimeter fencing and spectator bleachers
The total cost of the project is estimated at slightly more than $100,000 with the village contribution expected to be around $15,000.
According to Hershberger, a decision on the application will be made by November. If funded, the village would have a 12-month window to complete the work.
