Jerry Ray Cordell

Jerry Ray Cordell, age 80, of Cambridge, Ohio (previously of Caldwell), passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by the people that loved him.

He was born June 29, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Donald Cordell and Louise (Ray) Henry. After losing his father early in life, he was raised by his mother and the late Lewis Henry, who loved and raised him as his own son.

Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Caldwell High School and then went on to graduate from Columbus Business College. He retired from Mahle of Caldwell after 38 years of service as a tool maker. Over the years, he enjoyed playing pool, golfing, his morning visits to Mike’s Tire Shop, and watching his beloved Buckeyes and Caldwell Redskins. But nothing topped his love for fishing, especially at Caldwell Lake, where he reeled in his unforgettable 10 pound large mouth bass.

He leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Twila (Roe) Cordell, whom he married June 26, 1987. His greatest blessing, his daughter, Anna Cordell-Petta (Brian/fishing buddy) of Cambridge; his three bonus children, Stacey Spratt of Cambridge, Jay (Kim) Mallett of Pleasant City, and Adam (Patti) Mallett of Sarahsville; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brother, Bob (LaDonna) Cordell of Caldwell and his sister, Sandy Riley of Straunton, IL; his sisters-in-law, Sheryl Gossett and Valerie Wilkinson, both of Salesville; his brothers-in-law, Kevin Roe and Lorne (Heather) Roe, both of Salesville, Nelson (Pam) Roe of Eldon, and Daren (Ann) Roe of Lore City; many nieces and nephews and a good neighbor, Rick Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his in-laws, Scott and Elaine Roe; great-grandchildren, Jordan Hickman and Bexley Loveall.

A special mention goes to his granddaughter, Ella Rae, who was the apple of his eye and his grandson, Kevin, who was not only his devoted caregiver but also his partner in crime.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Guernsey for their compassionate care, kindness and support.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no formal services. His family will come together privately to celebrate his life and the love and memories he leaves behind.

Arrangements by Thorn-Black Funeral Home.
