Local historian Marie Bundy provides a repeat program of the history of the former Belmont County Children’s Home next Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. The program will take place at the Watt Center for History and the Arts, 511 Watt Avenue. In addition to Bundy’s presentation, former residents and employees, family members and others with memories of the home will provide additional details of its operation from 1880-1981. New participants are encouraged to attend and share their stories.

In this photo, Virgil Danford (1917-2015) is shown in 1979 on the tractor in the hayfield east of the home, along with three of the residents. Danford was hired as the BCCH farm manager about 1950, working up until the home closed. He and his wife, Gladys Trott Danford (1911-2015), lived in the big white wood-frame farmhouse that stood east of the main building.
