Ernest “Ernie” Hartley, area native who now resides in El Dorado, CA, was largely responsible for the placement of an Ohio Historical Marker at the site of the former Richland Friends Meeting House just east of Eldon or Spencer’s Station in eastern Guernsey County. Hartley, shown here, spoke to the crowd that gathered for the dedication on May 28, 2017.
The Richland Meeting (Conservative) was part of the Ohio Yearly Meeting of Friends that meets east of Barnesville each summer.
Richland was “closed”, or “laid down” prior to the building’s removal in 1983. A Quaker burial ground remains at the site.
