Broadband Grants Announced

COLUMBUS, OH — Governor Mike DeWine and BroadbandOhio have announced nearly $23.7 million in new funding to support broadband infrastructure expansion across Ohio.
The funding, distributed through the Broadband Pole Replacement and Undergrounding Program, will reimburse six internet service providers for infrastructure costs in 23 counties. The support is aimed at improving access to high-speed internet, particularly in underserved areas.
“Every Ohioan deserves access to affordable high-speed internet, no matter where they live,” said Governor DeWine. “By supporting infrastructure investments, we’re opening doors for more communities to connect, grow, and thrive.”
Lt. Governor Jim Tressel emphasized the importance of connectivity for workforce growth, while Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik added that the funding helps overcome cost barriers that slow internet access expansion.
This marks the third round of funding from the program, which was created through House Bill 33 of the 135th General Assembly. To date, nearly $25.1 million has been requested for reimbursement.
Notable reimbursements include:
- Ohio Gig: $18.5 million for work in Belmont, Delaware, Union, Hardin, Clinton, and Warren counties.
- Charter Communications: $3 million for projects in 13 counties, including Guernsey, Muskingum, Morgan, Noble, and Perry.
- South Central Power: $1.4 million for work in Belmont, Monroe, Highland, and Harrison counties.
The program covers up to 75% of eligible costs, such as pole replacements, undergrounding fiber lines, and associated installation expenses. Reimbursements are available for qualifying work completed since July 1, 2023, and will continue through June 2029 or until the $50 million allocation is exhausted.
The initiative is non-competitive and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
