SR 379 and SR 147 Road Closures Ahead

Two projects are expected to be launched in the coming week resulting in closures on State Route 379 and State Route 147 west of Barnesville according to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s projects website.
The State Route 379 slide repair project is located south of Baileys Mills in Somerset Township. The project will include the removal and replacement of existing pavement and two existing culverts.
A 75-day closure is scheduled to begin on June 23, 2025, for this project with a project completion date of August 31. The estimated cost of the project is $480,000.
This closure will affect attendees going to the annual Temperanceville Picnic slated for Sunday, July 27.
The official Ohio DOT detour incorrectly moves traffic to Quaker City, north to I-70, over to Route 800 and back to the SR 147 starting point.
While locals may easily work around the road closure, drivers unaware of the backroads should not follow the designated state detour.
The detour during the first few weeks of the project is also impacted by the closure of SR 147 between the Belmont – Noble line and Batesville. During this time, a detour south on SR 800 to either SR 145 or SR 78 in Monroe County then west to SR 379 will provide access along state highways to the Temperanceville.
After SR 147 reopens in early July, a detour west on SR 147 to Batesville then south on SR 513 to Summerfield and SR 78, then east on SR 78 and north on SR 379 will provide access to Temperanceville.
SR 147 in Beaver Township is also slated to close in for 11 days beginning Monday, June 23 through Thursday, July 3 as crews replaced culverts just west of the intersection of Popular Drive.
During the construction period, an official Ohio DOT detour takes traffic west on SR 265 to Quaker City then south on SR 513 to Batesville and back to SR 147.
The ODOT website also reveals a larger project coming up affecting the Batesville community in the spring and summer months of 2026 for a bridge replacement. That project is expected to cost $530,000.
