Gary Lee Nichols

Gary L. Nichols, 80, of Flushing, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in WVU Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Canton, Ohio, on November 4, 1944, a son of the late Woodrow Lee Nichols and Geneva Brokaw Nichols.
Gary was a graduate of Flushing High School and Ohio University. After graduation he began teaching and coaching at Barnesville High School until 1978. “Mr. Nick” taught Social Studies at Flushing Elementary and later at Union Local Middle School.
Most remember “Coach Nick” as a Junior High basketball coach, varsity football coach and Flushing little league coach. He also was an avid golfer. Gary enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and getting updates on his son’s coaching career,
Gary was a member of the Flushing Methodist Church and attended the Flushing Christian Church. He was also a member of the Flushing Senior Center.
Preceding him in death was the love of his life, his wife Sharon K. (Cordner) Nichols, as well as his parents, Lee and Geneva Nichols and his parents in law, Harry and Sis Cordner. Surviving are his son, Jeffrey (Kisha) Nichols, Bowling Green; his daughter, Wendy (Shelby) Alexander, Flushing; six Grandchildren; Kaylee (Josh) Loy, Kari Alexander, Ian Alexander, Devon Alexander, all of Flushing; Lexie Hart-Nichols and Ally Hart-Nichols of Bowling Green; two Great Grandchildren: Amelia and Olivia Loy.
Friends will be received at Warren Funeral Home, Flushing, on Thursday, July 10, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm. Services will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, at 12:00pm, with Rev. Larry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing.
