Support Barnesville Area News Company

The Barnesville Area News website is free. Producing it isn’t.

Barnesville Area News exists because this community believes local news matters.

In our first year as a nonprofit, we set a fundraising goal of $25,000, which we reached thanks to the generosity of our readers, neighbors, and supporters. Those donations allowed us to cover village councils and school boards, report on local events and sports, and bring consistent, reliable local news back to Barnesville and the surrounding area.

To everyone who donated during our first year: thank you. You didn’t just support a website. You helped build something meaningful for this community.

This Is Our Community’s Newspaper

Barnesville Area News is not owned by a corporation or driven by outside interests. It exists because current and former residents care enough to support it. The majority of our donations come from regular people, many giving modest amounts, who believe their community deserves a local news source it can trust.

No donation is too small. Those small gifts add up, and together they make community-supported journalism possible.

This is our community’s newspaper. It only works when the community takes part in sustaining it. The only way it fails is if we let it fail.

Our Year 2 Goal: $45,000

For our second year, our fundraising goal is $45,000. Reaching this goal will help us:

  • Maintain consistent coverage of local government and schools
  • Expand coverage into surrounding communities
  • Build stronger and more reliable sports coverage
  • Cover the real costs of operating a responsible nonprofit news organization

Your support helps ensure that local stories continue to be told by people who live here and care about this place.

Behind every story is real work and real cost. On an average month, the core expenses required to operate Barnesville Area News total about $2,900, covering part-time reporting commitments, insurance, and necessary operating costs. In addition, the work of volunteers currently contributes more than $4,000 per month in donated labor. Looking ahead to our second year, adding consistent part-time sports coverage would increase monthly costs by approximately $1,200, bringing the average financial need to around $4,000 per month to sustain and grow coverage.

What Your Donation Helps Make Possible

Every contribution directly supports local reporting and the behind-the-scenes work required to keep Barnesville Area News running.

  • $50: Helps support the reporting and writing of a local news story
  • $125: Helps cover a village council or school board meeting
