Barnesville Area Education Foundation Announces Hall of Fame Inductees

                                                                                                                  

BARNESVILLE – The Barnesville Area Education Foundation (BAEF) provides funds for local education systems and students that might not otherwise be available through public funding. Each year the foundation evaluates and votes on worthy nominations for the BAEF Hall of Fame.

This year the Foundation is proud to announce the Hall of Fame inductees. They are Daniel Harp Plumly, a 1971 graduate, and Samuel Lee Reynolds, a 1975 graduate of Barnesville High School.

Dan Plumly

Dan Plumly was an exceptional athlete, with strong academic credentials in high school and in college. Plumly was quarterback of the football team and he played football and basketball all four years. He was also on the Track team for two years, Golf team for one year, he was in the Spanish Club., Varsity B., Key Club, participated in the Class Play and was on the Debate team his senior year.

Plumly graduated from Muskingum College with B. A. and was summa cum laude graduate in 1975. Plumly also had a very successful career on the gridiron as a defensive back for the Muskingum football team.

Plumly graduated from Case Western University with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1978 and achieved Order of the Coif (top 10% of the graduating class). He was also a member of the National Moot Court Team.

Plumly is a resident of Wooster, Ohio and has been with Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston, Ltd. Attorneys at Law since 1978. When he joined the firm he was the sixth full time attorney.  He is the former managing member of Law Office and at the time of his semi-retirement the firm had 5 offices and approximately 40 attorneys.  Dan practices in the areas of corporate law, banking, business planning, commercial and natural resource law.

Plumly is an active member of the Wooster community. He has served as chairman of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries of Wayne County, Inc., Main Street Inc. and the Wooster Country Club, Meals on Wheels of Stark and Wayne County among many other organizations. He has been a member of the Muskingum University Board of Trustees for over 20 years. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and is past president of the Wayne County Bar Association. Dan has served on the Board of Directors of both public and private corporations.

Plumly has been an ardent supporter of his hometown and the Muskingum University. He has supported many organizations in Barnesville by providing donations for and support for various programs. He attends as many Barnesville functions as his schedule will allow, including the annual Alumni Banquets. 

Plumly is married to his high school sweetheart Anita Reed Plumly. They have three children and eight grandchildren.

His parents were Max and Marjorie Harp Plumly who are deceased and were lifelong and influential residents of Barnesville.  With his induction Plumly will be joining his Uncle Tom Harp and his Aunt Marcia Harp in the Barnesville Area Education Foundation’s Hall of Fame.

Sam Reynolds

Sam Reynolds had an exceptional athletic career in high school and in college. During his time at Barnesville High School he was captain of the football team, captain of the wrestling team, and captain of the baseball team. He also played

baseball for four years and was also on the wrestling team for two years. He was in the Key Club, Varsity B, Varsity B President his Senior year, Language Club and the National Honor Society.

Reynolds received All Ohio Valley and All Eastern District football honors at Barnesville. He was selected to play in the Ohio-West Virginia All Star game. He was also selected as All Valley and All East Ohio Conference League (EOCL) for baseball.

Reynolds continued his outstanding athletic career at Marietta College where he was on the baseball team from 1975-1977. He was also on the football team playing as a linebacker and tight end from 1975-1978. He was identified by   coaches as the most efficient offensive lineman in 1977 and 1978. In 1978 he was the leading pass receiver at Marietta and was chosen as All-Conference tight end. 

Reynolds continued with his academic tenure and graduated from Marietta College with a BA in Management and Economics in 1979. He received an MBA from Northern Illinois University in 1991. He also attended UNC Kevan-Flagler Business School for Senior Executive training in 1998 and received a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in 2003.

He has been a business leader in the Plastics Industry with experience in company management, lending, operations, lean manufacturing, sales and business development. 

Reynolds served as President of Bunzl Extrusion 1996-2002, Poly Vinyl Company as the Vice President from 2002-2004. He moved to Vinylex Corp.as the President / CEO, from 2004-2014. He subsequently joined EG Enterprises as CEO from 2014-2016. Reynolds then transitioned to Teel Plastics, with Business Development during 2015-2017. Reynolds is currently retired.

Reynolds has been a leader his entire life.  He was the President of the St. Charles Central Boosters during his sons’ high school careers. He has been a Chief Executive Officer / President, leader and innovator during his career as a highly respected leader in the plastics industry. 

Sam Reynolds currently resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife Eula who also was a Barnesville High School graduate of 1975. Sam and Eula have three sons and daughters in-law and six grandchildren.    

Sam’s parents were Lee and Patsy Reynolds who were well known very respected lifetime residents of the Barnesville community. His father and his mother have both passed. His sisters are Mary (Mark) Chema of Zanesville, Ohio and Barbara (Keith) Wells who have been life- long residents of Barnesville.

Alumni Banquet Reservations

These individuals will be recognized at the Alumni Banquet in the cafeteria on the high school campus scheduled for July 12, 2025. Social hour will begin at 5:00 with dinner scheduled at 6:00. The cost for the banquet is $20.00 per person.
