Big Catch Claims Fishing Tournament

Thankfully, stubborn Mother Nature, who threatened stormy conditions early Saturday morning, had a change of heart and the Barnesville Fire and EMS Youth Fishing Tournament went on without a hitch.

The contest resulted in a record catch of a 29-inch catfish. The winning fisherman was 15-year-old Zander Ankron. He claimed top honors at the event held at Barnesville Memorial Park’s Rotary Lake.  

The top three winners by age group were

12-15:    Zander Ankron – first place; Jaylin Yost – second place, and Cale Willis – third place.

7-11:   Zoey Ankron – first place; Brayden Doty – second place, and Colton Carpenter – third place.

6 and Under:  Bentlee Leasure – first place; Hayden Butler – second place, and Gunner Moore – third place.

A total of 60 youth registered and took part in the tournament. The youngest participant was three years old.

The event was sponsored and supported by the Barnesville American Legion Post #168, Barnesville VFW Post #2792, Barnesville Sons of the American Legion, Old Barn Bait Shop, Barnesville Dairy Queen, Convenient Food Mart, Woodsfield Savings Bank, Do it Best Hardware, Village of Barnesville, J-Mo Meats, Barnesville Hospital and Steubenville’s Hilltop Hardware.
