Barnesville Track and Field Phenom Inducted into Hall of Fame

Ryan Grear, 1998 BHS graduate, who holds six Barnesville and OVAC records and who went on to be named nine times to All Big Ten Conference as a member of the Ohio State Buckeye squad, was inducted into the Track & Cross County Coaches Association Hall of Fame at a banquet in Cambridge on June 20 as a member of the Class of 2025.

Since 2020, Grear has served as a coach for his alma mater as a Track and Field Coach. He was the Sprint/Hurdle Coach for the 2023 and 2024 Girls’ OVAC Championship Teams and was Girls’ Head Coach this past spring.

He was named 2023 Ohio Association Track & Cross-Country Coaches East District Assistant Coach of the Year.

As a sophomore in high school, Grear was a member of the first Barnesville Boys Team to win the OVAC title. He was OVAC Champion in the110 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles. He was also a member of the champion shuttle Hurdle Relay team. 

During his junior year, he was OVAC, District and Regional champion in both the 110 and 300 Hurdles.

In his senior year, in addition to repeating as champion in the OVAC, District, and Regional meets, he was also State Champion in the 110 and 300 Hurdles. He placed third in the 110 Hurdles at the Midwest Meet while winning all individual races during the season.
