Flags Flown at Half-Staff Will Honor Jack Cera

COLUMBUS – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Belmont, Jefferson, Monroe, Noble, and Washington counties, as well as at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower in honor of the life and service of former state Representative Jack Cera.
The flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on the day of his funeral, Saturday, July 19, 2025.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
Cera of Bellaire served the 96th House District of Ohio from 1983 to 96 and again from 2011 to 2020.
He is described as a bipartisan effective legislator who built trust among everyone–a rarity in politics. Jack Cera left office in 2020 when he term-limited out.
Cera died on July 13 at the age of 69. His obituary is currently posted on the Barnesville Area News website.
