Intense Storm Friday Downs Trees
A powerful electrical storm visited Barnesville early Friday afternoon, dropping a large amount of rain while buffeting the community with high winds that at times seemed to be blowing in multiple directions at the same time.
The storm, that some described as microburst, downed multiple trees throughout the community, according to a dispatcher from the Barnesville Police Department. The department also received a call from one resident who lost power.
A tree split on the 500 block of West Main Street blocking both lanes to Barnesville Hospital. An AEP crew cleared one lane before the Barnesville Street Department arrived to remove the downed tree.
Street Department employees indicated they have a number of downed trees to remove from village streets and alleys.
