New Downtown Building Cleared by State

On Thursday local developer T.J. Jefferis and his construction team were busy at the corner of Main and Chestnut streets removing concrete sidewalks and former building concrete floors as the first step of constructing a $3.2-million dollar two-story mixed used commercial building.

Contacted on site, the developer said building permits have state clearance to proceed.

Initial construction will focus on building footers for the project that is partially funded by JobsOhio and the Southeast Economic Development agency.

The new building will fill the main downtown corner that has been an open lot for the past 30 months. It will replace four National Register-listed historic buildings that were demolished by the Village of Barnesville in October 2023.
