Riders Encouraged to Join ‘Eyes of Freedom’ Escort
“Hey fellow riders ! It’s going to be that time soon again as the Eyes of Freedom is going to need some riders to escort the wall again to the Barnesville Middle School on September 21st; kickstands will be up at 1 p.m.,” said Laura Tindall, a member of the American Legion Riders, Post #168 of Barnesville,.
“Come early to meet some new friends. We are meeting at the big parking area behind Speedway at the Old Washington Exit 186 of I-70. Cars, Jeeps, Trucks, EMS vehicles are all welcome,” Tindall added.
This is the fifth and final year the Lima-based display will come to Barnesville as that group marks its 25th year.
In addition to Legion Riders and other members of the American Legion, escort participants will include members of Barnesville VFW Post #2792, veterans, families, law enforcement, emergency services personnel, truckers and ordinary citizens.
The escort, led by the Barnesville Police Department, will travel along I-70 east to the Barnesville Exit, south along SR 800 into the village where Barnesville VFD vehicles will join the procession. The escort will continue through the downtown where the tractor trailer containing the Eyes of Freedom display and escort members will pass below a “Flag Bridge”, an American Flag suspended between the aerial ladder trucks from Barnesville and Bethesda VFDs, and on to Barnesville Middle School on Shamrock Drive.
Residents are encouraged to line the streets as the escort passes.
The Eyes of Freedom will formally open Monday evening at 6 p.m. Monday. Students will view the tribute before it opens to the public Wednesday through Sunday.
