Harvest History Hunt Virtual Walking Tour

“Where’s the Great Pumpkin?” The History Detectives of Belmont County History Hunt is set for the Barnesville Community during next week’s Barnesville Pumpkin Festival.
The tour contains 10 stops – The Bradfield Building, Presbyterian Church, Victorian Mansion Museum, Barnesville Post Office, Municipal Building, The B & O Depot, B & O Railroad Tunnel, Watt Center for History & the Arts, Stillwater Friends Meeting House and Olney Friends School.
The sponsors recommend at least two people work the tour together. One person navigates Google Map locations and acts as a guide to the stops while the other person navigates the videos via YouTube on a smart phone.
While the tour stops are in a logical order, participants are welcome to complete the tour in any fashion.
Many of the locations are not open during the festival. And, of note, construction of a $3.2 million rehabilitation of the c.1870 railroad tunnel and addition of a 1.3-mile walking path makes the depot/tunnel area an active construction site.
Print copies of a brochure promoting the walk are available at businesses throughout the downtown business district and at the Pumpkin Information Wagon. The brochure contains a QR Code to access the Google Map of saved locations.

The tour is sponsored by Joe’s Tire, a regional firm headquartered in Barnesville.
The History Detectives of Belmont County envision an enlightening through education while encompassing and heightening a love for history across all ages. Educating the public on these histories will stir and bring to life an acceptance for one another. More information on the group is posted on their Facebook page.
