Romaine Kathleen Walburn

Romaine Kathleen Haught Walburn, 81, of Grantsville, WV, formerly of Key, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 28, 2025.
She was born on February 8, 1944, in Key, Ohio, the daughter of the late Elizabeth Hepburn Haught and Paul Haught. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Haught and a sister, Sarah Getzlaff.
Romaine graduated from Bellaire High School in 1962 and went on to further her education at West Liberty University. While there, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and a minor in Psychology. Romaine became a professional seamstress who created formal wear and wedding gowns for generations of women. She also served as the camp manager of Camp Presmont for 14 years. During this time, she mentored and ministered to hundreds of children and young adults.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville and the Calhoun County Historical Society. Romaine enjoyed bird watching, was an amateur meteorologist, and an artist with fabrics, yarn, and other textiles. It brought her great joy to crochet blankets for family and friends. Also, a fantastic cook, she was famous for her amazing doughnuts, pies, and wedding cakes. She loved being in God’s creation and was most happy at the lake, ocean, or walking in the fields and woods on snowy days. She was passionate about holidays and traditions and shared this love with her family and friends.
Romaine loved being Mom and Nana to her own children and grandchildren and the countless others she touched throughout her lifetime, and she cherished her dog, Rascal.
Romaine truly emulated a Proverbs 31 woman.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
~ Proverbs 31:28-31~
Romaine is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Peter Eldridge Walburn; four daughters, Mellody Walburn of Grantsville, WV, Melinda (Scott) Kristoff of Canton, OH, Melissa (David) Dague of Wheeling, WV, and Maricia (Andrew) Mlynek of Grantsville, WV; and three grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Dague, Hannah Dague, and Landon Kristoff.
Honoring Romaine’s wishes, there will be no formal services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio.
Memorial donations may be made in Romaine’s memory to Calhoun County West Virginia Young Life c/o: http://giving.younglife.org/calhouncountywv or to Camp Presmont at www.presmont.org.
