Council Candidate Tim McKelvey
Council candidate Tim McKelvey provided the following information:
I am a graduate of Barnesville High School. I have an associate degree from Belmont Tech in Land Stabilization and Reclamation. I’m an Army veteran. After graduation I worked for UPS in Columbus for nine years.
I was employed by Ohio Coal for 20 years. Self employed for three years. I retired from Barnesville Schools as director of buildings and grounds.
I’ve been married to Liz (Cook) McKelvey for 50 years. We have two daughters, Sara Artrip of Fredonia, NY and Lindsey McGlumphy of Hillard, OH. I have five grandchildren.
I am a charter member of the Barnesville E Squad, belong to the Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Barnesville Area Education Foundation, rotary, the legion, the Elks, 45-year member of Shamrock football chain crew, Shamrock Goaliners, treasurer for 200 club, Barnesville Boosters Club, working bingo every Wednesday for 45 years, Barnesville Community Foundation. While serving on village council, I have been president. The third lane has been added to the east end of town with sidewalks, supported the E Squad levy and Kirkwood Township when passed, allowed for 24/7 coverage. The historical district was designated, increased property size at the park, acquired the railroad property. I’ve supported the Fire Department and Resource Officers at the school.
If I am re-elected I want to work with Belmont and Guernsey County to provide for Hendrysburg and Fairview and complete Mt. Olivett loop with the grant money. I want to upgrade the sewage treatment plant. I want to finish the rails to trails project with grant money. I want to implement the downtown project with grant money or low interest loans to business owners to be used inside or out of their buildings. I want extra money for paving next year in the village. The trail at the park needs work in order to reopen. During the year there are always things that need addressed by village council.
I’m a lifelong resident of Barnesville. I feel very fortunate to have grown up here and raised my family here. I feel that Barnesville is in good hands and our best days are ahead of us.
