Candidates Forum Well Attended

The first Barnesville Area News sponsored Barnesville Village Council Candidates Forum Tuesday night was well attended.

Almost 50 local citizens showed up to hear what council candidates had to say in response to questions submitted by the public.

Attending the forum were candidates Cole Carpenter, Lindsay Taylor Dowdle, Brad English and Mark Lucas.

Tim McKelvey, a current member of council and a candidate for re-election, planned to attend but was unable due to a medical procedure, said moderator Crystal Lorimor, executive director of the Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County.

Lorimor said candidates Tony Johnson and Les Tickhill were invited to participate but declined the offer.

Hopefuls responded to 17 questions running the gambit from street paving and property maintenance enforcement to public participation in the decision making process and transparency.

The program ran more than an hour with many citizens remaining afterwards to speak individually with the candidates.
