Athlete of the Week: Trey Toliver

The Times Leader selected Barnesville football player Trey Toliver as its Athlete of the Week for his stellar performance against Union Local last week. Against their backyard rivals, Union Local, the Shamrocks won 34-0, capturing the Milk Bucket for the eighth straight season. Trey Toliver was an integral part to this Shamrock victory. Trey ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns. His scoring runs were 69, 67, and 3 yards.

When his teammates were asked about Trey Toliver and playing football with him, here is what they had to say:

“Trey encourages everyone to play their best. He is fun to be around. He always works hard,” said Evan Carpenter.

“Trey always has your back. He is genuine. What you see is what you get,” shared Luis Garcia Del Manzano.

“A good leader. He takes things seriously. Trey has good work ethics and wants the entire team to be the best,” said Phoenix Graham.

The Barnesville coaches and principal affirmed these thoughts about Trey Toliver. Barnesville High School Principal Ron Clark stated, “Trey is intelligent, hard-working, and motivated on the field and in the classroom.” Clark continued, “He is deserving of his successes and earns each one. He’s a special kid.”

When Head Football Coach Blake Allen was asked about Trey, Coach Allen’s first word was “humble.” Coach Allen added, “He is one of the hardest workers on the team. He is eager to learn and grow. Trey is an all-around great young man.”

Coach Brady Treherne shared that Trey Toliver has really grown as a player and a leader this year. “Trey supports his teammates with his positive attitude and encouragement.” Coach Treherne went on to say that “Trey is focused in practice and it shows on the field.”

Trey Toliver and the #4 ranked Barnsville Shamrocks will play the #5 ranked Portsmouth Trojans this Friday night at the Barnesville Shamrock Stadium.
