75 Years Ago – The Thanksgiving Snowstorm of 1950

In just a few weeks it will be 75 years since the big Thanksgiving Snowstorm of 1950. Those of us who are nearing 80 or more will remember it like it was yesterday. Those of us who came along later have certainly heard stories of how family members coped with the heavy snowfall and its aftermath.

Beginning Monday, November 24 Barnesville Area News will publish accounts of the snow submitted by readers. Tell us your story or those related to you by parents, grandparents, family and friends. Please keep accounts to 300 words or less. A photo may also be submitted.

Barnesville Area News reserves the right to edit or modify submissions for clarity. Please submit stories by Friday, November 21. Send submissions to news@barnesvillenews.org .

We will publish the submissions throughout Thanksgiving week.

The day before Thanksgiving, we will feature the photos taken by 1943 BHS grad Karl Eichhorn, a WW II veteran and lifelong professional photographer, who happened to be at his parents Mt.Olivett Road residence that weekend. This remarkable Barnesville photo collection has never before been published.
