State Theater Gains Movie Screen
Thanks to the generosity of Barnesville State Theater’s friends at the Monroe Theater, a movie projection screen is now part of the local venue, another step towards returning movies, live events, and other activities to the century old movie house.
The 12’ x 24’ foot screen was transported to Barnesville this past week.
The Monroe Theater is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar makeover made possible by an Ohio Appalachian Grant awarded by the DeWine Administration.
At the theater board meeting this past Tuesday, it was announced the theater will participate in Ohio Goes to the Movies 2026.
Ohio Goes to the Movies™ (OGTTM) is a statewide celebration of movies showcasing Ohioans: actors, directors, writers, composers, locations, and topics, shown in cities and towns across the state. A Signature Event of America 250-Ohio, OGTTM will start mid-February 2026 and run through October 2026 – about 250 days of Ohio movie magic showcasing Ohio’s contributions to America’s film industry and moviemaking. Movies will include independent films, Hollywood blockbusters, and industrial/special interest films, from rare archival footage to contemporary works.

The Barnesville movie is planned for late spring next year. More information on the movie project may be found here.
In addition to the donated screen, portable seating from Monroe was also purchased by the State Theater team.
Those wishing to make donations to the theater may do so by sending checks to P.O. Box 255, Barnesville, OH 43713. Check the theater website at www.barnesvilleST.org or send an email to hello@barnesvilleST.org. Information is also posted on the theater Facebook page.
