US EPA Great Lakes Region Recognizes CIC of Belmont County

CHICAGO – The Great Lakes Region US EPA has recognized the Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County and Director Crystal Lorimor for being selected for the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities planning assistance program

“EPA and our federal partners look forward to supporting you in Belmont County, Ohio, as you connect the communities in the county with a watershed-wide outdoor recreation approach,” the announcement notes.

A focus of the project will be on brownfield site redevelopment, land conservation, and stewardship along the Captina Creek Watershed. Partners include the villages of Barnesville and Powhatan Point, Captina Conservancy and the Belmont County Soil and Water Conservation District among others.    

A statement by Barnesville Mayor Jake Hershberger is featured by the federal agency.

The grant is the single grant awarded in Ohio through this grant round.   

The Great Lakes Region EPA Office also recognized a second Mid-West Region grantee, the City of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
