Ohio Magazine Award Special Christmas in the Ville Bonus

Representatives of Ohio Magazine will be special guests during Saturday’s Christmas in the Ville downtown holiday celebration to present the Village of Barnesville with its official award commemorating the 2025 Best Hometown designation.

In addition to village and chamber leaders, Belmont County Tourism director Jackee Pugh has extended an invitation county wide for others to join in on the celebration.

The event will take place at 2 p.m. on on West Main Street near the ice skating rink in the West Main Street parking lot.

The presentation is the culmination of a process that began last spring when Pugh entered Barnesville into the competition.

On June 27 editor Jim Vickers along with photographer Rachel Jirousek and videographer Carrie Largent visited the Barnesville community, beginning their day at the Dickinson Cattle Company and ending with a guided tour of the Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum.

Six weeks later, the magazine selected Barnesville and four others – Ashland, Greene, Mt. Vernon and Yellow Springs – as official 2025-2026 Ohio Best Hometowns. A month later the commemorative Ohio Magazine issue was released.

In encouraging others to take in the Barnesville event, Pugh said, “it a wonderful opportunity to experience holiday cheer, community pride, and small-town spirit all in one afternoon”.
