James Ray Schmitt

James Ray Schmitt, 63, of Belmont, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at his home. He was born December 19, 1962, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a son of the late Francis and Margaret DeLeau Schmitt.

James was a laborer for Bob’s Transmission Shop. He enjoyed going to dirt track races and scratch off tickets.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Francis Schmitt, Gary Schmitt and Randy L. Schmitt; and two sisters, Marcella Demkowitcz and Patty Palmer.

He is survived by his five brothers, Roger Schmitt, Robert “Herm” Schmitt, Donny Schmitt, Danny Schmitt and Rick Schmitt; one sister, Sandy McConnaughy; and several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, no visitation or funeral services are planned. Burial at Belmont Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
